Hekate Series
The Hekate Series is an exploration of infertility, transformation, and the many ways family can be formed. Hekate, guardian of thresholds and companion to Persephone through the underworld, embodies both protection and renewal. These woven works reflect my own passage through grief, hope, and the reweaving of life after loss.
Through spinning, weaving, and gathering natural materials, I found a language for experiences that exist between worlds—between life and death, longing and acceptance, despair and rebirth. The deer antler frames symbolize strength and regeneration; the handspun fibers hold memory and intention. Each piece honors a stage of my journey: the birth that was lost, the liminal waiting, and the rebirth of family through love and persistence.
Hekate: Birth Materials: Naturally shed deer antler frame, cotton warp, handspun silk and wool yarns. Birth represents the beginning of creation—the weaving of hope, anticipation, and the fragile promise of new life. Threads of silk and wool intertwine like possibility and potential, tender yet strong. This piece holds the memory of what could have been, a quiet invocation of beginnings.
Hekate: Liminal Materials: Naturally shed deer antler frame, cotton warp, handspun angora, silk, and wool yarns, peacock feathers. Liminal dwells in the threshold—the uncertain space between loss and becoming. Peacock feathers shimmer as symbols of protection and transformation. The weaving process became an act of endurance, a meditation on patience and the unseen work of healing that happens in shadow.
Hekate: Rebirth Materials: Naturally shed deer antler frame, cotton warp, handspun silk and wool yarn, lavender sprigs. Rebirth embodies renewal and the creation of family beyond expectation. Lavender, woven into the fibers, carries calm and restoration. This piece celebrates reweaving life through adoption, love, and faith in new beginnings—three threads forming one complete family.
